Re: opering in Hold mode

Depends how technical you want to be about it. At a high level - no, there will be no net recharge to the battery - if you want that, use mountain mode to store up some extra charge before you climb a long hill. In actuality no system is ever perfect in maintaining the exact charge of the battery. (...

Re: Check Engine Light Comes and Goes

Cindy,

Have you called Onstar while the Check Engine light is on? They can generally provide the diagnostic over the phone and tell you what's up instead of having to take it into the dealer.

Re: Service High Voltage Charging Message

No issue here yet, good thing you have the gas backup I guess! (900+mpg is pretty nuts)

Bring it in while its still under warranty!

Funny that you mention that ...

Check out my other blog on the Cadillac ELR and you'll see exactly what you are talking about there...

Re: Charging power used to keep battery warm in winter

Very interesting! btw how does the Volt do in snow? Do you use chains / cables at all or don't take the car out? I am thinking about taking it up to the mountains but want to know if that is a good idea. (Sorry this is coming from the California guy, our winter right now is 55 degrees...) I'm wonder...

Re: Manufacturer's certification for tax credit

This is really vague, but basically GM has already provided the IRS with the certifying materials. (You don't need to have anything else turned in with your tax return) This is more of an issue for smaller EV makers.

Re: Volt in Florida......Air conditioning

I drove a Volt in the Michigan summer (93 degrees, 80% humidity) and it worked just fine, does that count? The compressor on the Volt is more than powerful enough to keep up with A/C needs.

Re: 120 v ext cord

Hi Colin,

The unit with the car is not rated to run the higher power @ 220v, so i wouldn't advise you just change the plug. getting a real 240 station is the way to go. Not worth the risk IMHO.

Re: Actual Kwh to charge the Volt

Hey James, Are you charging @ 240v or 120v? 240 is about 10% more efficient from what I have seen. Anecdotally, I've seen that if you used about 10Kw-h on the Volt, it takes about 11.5-12 to charge it @ 240v. But I haven't done specific measurement or math beyond just looking at my bill and totaling...
