Charging the battery while driving HiWay

Postby Noah44 » Fri Jul 21, 2017 8:45 pm

Hi,

I wonder if driving on HiWay (on gasoline obviously) will ever charge the battery to FULL.
In other words, is the gas generator provides enough electricity for driving the car and charging the battery,
Will appreciate a reply. It will help me to decide if I should purchase a Volt.

If we use Mountain Mode in our 2012 Volt, the battery recharges while the engine is running and it 'appears' that for every mile driven there is about a .15 mile recharge, now, this is a total WAG but ....WTH.
there are several You Tube videos, from a guy in western Canada that explains this in much greater detail,
My wife loves her Volt.

The short answer is NO..................
While running on gas, the battery will only charge to about 45% in Mountain Mode................
Keep in mind, that since the battery was charged with gas, the miles used even on EV will count as "gas" miles.
To get a FULL charge, you HAVE to plug in.

Is it really done? If it really works. It will be very good for me.
