When Volts are available, here will be the place to talk about how to Detail, Maintain and Customize your Volt. Other good topics are charging (solar or otherwise) smartphone app usage, etc.

What kind of 220v Outlet should I install

Postby zardeenah » Tue Apr 25, 2017 12:46 pm

I want to install an outlet for a plug in level 2 charger for my 2017 Volt. There are a bunch of different types of these outlets, though. If you could choose any one of them, what would you choose?

Depending on your country and the amperage rating should determine the outlet type. The line should be isolated. You may or may not want to go with a locking class 'L' version outlet depending on if you connection is exposed to the elements. Hope this helps.

The US standard plug is the 14-50 plug if this is a US device.

I think you are putting the cart before the horse. I believe it is best to first identify the brand of Level 2 charger you are interested in purchasing. Not all Level 2 chargers are plug-in, or use the same type of plug. Once you decide on a Level 2 "plug in" charger, that will dictate the type of outlet you will need. For example, I recently purchased the Siemens VersiCharge Gen 2 plug-in model. The plug on the Siemens is a NEMA 6-50. I hope this helps.
