Engine Running Low Temperature Message

Postby rr4414 » Wed Nov 14, 2012 9:58 am

In the morning, on a 15-mile commute to work, even with a fully-charged battery, my gas engine runs intermittently for a few miles of the commute. A message "engine running low temperature" displays. The outside temperature has been in the 30s or 40s. Any experience with this problem?

I have a 2012 and during the cold weather the engine will come on intermittantly to assist in keeping the cabin temperature warm and also to help keep the battery at the correct temp. This past week the outdoor temp was 28F and the engine came on 3 or 4 times during my 9.6 miile commute. This is normal but if you are concerned it would be best to call your dealer or a Volt advisor and ask them.

Ok did you see any kind of hard starting problem with your because on this board someone says that he is facing a hard starting problem in the cold weather when the car is plugged out. But thank God I have not any problem with my car. But I don't use it regularly just use it once or twice a week.

I have a 2013 Volt and each winter I have had the "engine running due to low temperature", but I believe it was only when it was in the low 20s or below. This fall I started getting the message when the temp was in the low 30s. I saw a post that says under 35.

What do others typically see?
