2016 Chevy Volt Battery Issues?

Postby wins7on » Sun Nov 29, 2015 2:16 pm

When I purchased my car Aug 28th, I was getting 54 miles to a charge. One month later and 1700 miles, my full charge is 47 miles. Has anyone else noticed this drop in miles on a full charge?? Can some tell me if this is normal for a new car or is there a fix??
Thanks!

Is the outdoor temperature colder now than when you were getting full charges of 54 miles?

I live in a cold weather fall and winter place. It seems to be perfectly normal that you do not get the same electric range in colder weather. I don't know if the battery does not charge to the same extent in colder weather, or the car estimates the range based on using more electricity for heating and 'other systems'. In warm weather I get the same range as you are getting, and the figure for November seems similar to mine. After some initial dismay, I have learned to live with it. I wonder how much effect the temperature has on pure electrics like the Tesla, or Kia Soul EV?

On the average, chemical reaction rates double or decrease by 50% for every 20 degree Centigrade temperature change, batteries included. The Volt uses the battery to heat or cool the battery. Heat is "expensive", cooling like a heat pump not quite as bad. My 2013 Volt got 46.5 miles (per charge mixed driving)on a nice day, and 29 miles in a snow storm, when I was paying attention to this
