Wireless Charging for your Chevy Volt

You know how some cell phones come with wireless inductive charging?  Well you can get it now too for your Chevy Volt or Nissan Leaf.  It will charge at the 3.3 Kw rate (like a Level 2 charging station) and requires you to get installed a specially designed component on your car to receive the charge.  Only problem with it right now is that it is essentially a $3,000 convenience item.  Yup, it costs $3,000 right now.  (You can compare this to other EV Charging stations starting as low as $500.)

So if you were wondering if level 2 charging was worth it, and you were on the fence, this isn’t your ticket – but the technology could lead to future wireless charging setups that are more affordable.

See more about it here where you can buy it, as well as basic specs for the Plugless Level 2 Charging System.

what a waste of time and $$$!!

  2. The technology for this is very cool and the concept is spot on, but as you said, not very practical at the moment.
